Tragic Loss for the Basketball Community

Drew Gordon (1990-2024)

The basketball world is mourning the tragic loss of Drew Gordon, a former professional player and the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon. Gordon died in a car accident in Portland, Oregon, on May 30, 2024.

Gordon was a highly regarded prospect coming out of high school at Archbishop Mitty in San Jose, California. He played four seasons of college basketball at the University of New Mexico, where he was named to the All-Mountain West Conference Second Team twice.

Gordon went undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft but signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent two seasons in Philadelphia before playing for the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, and Denver Nuggets.

Gordon retired from the NBA in 2018 and returned to the University of New Mexico as a graduate assistant coach. He was instrumental in helping the Lobos win the Mountain West Conference Tournament in 2019.

Gordon's untimely death has shocked the basketball community. He was a talented player with a bright future both on and off the court. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and teammates.
